Writing
I consider graphic design a form of storytelling. The story is told through a visual medium, frequently without words. It is often a challenging and therefore rewarding process, but there's an itch that it can't quite scratch. For me, the real challenge is telling a visual story in a non-visual medium. In order to scratch that itch, I write.

My favorite fictional genre is fantasy. I love to read it, I love hearing about it, and I love watching TV shows and movies that have a fantastic setting. I always have, ever since I was very young. So when I began writing my own fantasy stories near the beginning of my teenage years, something clicked. I was hooked. And so from then on I've spent a large portion of my time soaking up as much as I can about language, the history of fantasy as a genre, the general history of the world and people around me, psychology, chemistry, geology, and pretty much just about anything else I can. Learning just generally fascinates me, but when I keep my eyes and my ears open because I never know when I might pick up just the right fact for a story I'm writing, the world is even more captivating. Really, I think being a writer allows the world to have more and more magic in it every time I discover something interesting.

And so most of what I write is fantastic fiction. Poems get turned into lyrics and end up filed in the musical section of my brain. Prose will be displayed here as I manage to get it out of my head. I do one day hope to sell my work to a publisher, though, so if you see something disappear suddenly, it's likely because I'm shopping it around.

I also very much enjoy editing prose, whether it's my own or someone else's. When I want to display a piece here, however, I generally try to send it off to several other people for review before publishing it. While I am fairly confident in my technical skills, it's always good to have fresh eyes look over my work.

I also fancy myself a copy writer, but that body of work is displayed on sites listed in the Design portfolio. There are several sites that contain material that was written by my clients, which is something I try to encourage. Otherwise, I include copy writing as part of my services as a Web designer. While I do prefer to write fiction, I still find language fascinating. Getting to play around with it, even for a client's Web project, is something I greatly enjoy.
