This is another project from my high school senior art class. We were provided with small Van Gogh images from an ex desk calendar, I believe, and told to reproduce them. Surprise surprise, we were doing a unit on Van Gogh at the time. I have no idea what the name of the original image is (if anyone out there does, please email me). But my teacher (who was awesome, by the way) made sure that we knew to not only focus on the content of the image, but also on the brush strokes and other such techniques. Van Gogh's works were often tactilely stimulating as well as visually so. As this is oil pastels and not actual paint, touching it isn't all that interesting. But I am proud of myself for managing to make the "brush strokes" very obvious. I had lots of fun with this project, though looking back at it now I wish I hadn't felt the need to use a pencil to outline pretty much everything. Whoops. |
