Music
Music is practically in my blood. It's been with me my whole life in one form or another, and I've been cultivating it since I was a teenager. My tastes in genre and style are pretty omniverous, but my primary preference is filk/folk. If you are unfamiliar with the term "filk", filk is essentially the folk music of science-fiction and fantasy fandom. Yeah—it's the really nerdy stuff. But then I'm pretty nerdy myself, so of course I'm naturally attracted to it.

I am passionate enough about music that I feel it's more than something to just listen to. Music is a way of life. I hear music in everything, from buzzing electronics to random rhythms on the street. (Although I will say that I find the chirping of crickets to be patently annoying.) Music forms kinships of all types and can be unbelievably inspiring. It can be shocking or frightening or sentimental, and all things in between. It's a truly amazing phenomenon that weaves threads throughout all of our lives, even if we're not consciously aware of it. I think music is quite possibly one of the most important things in my life.

I've recently started trying to do things with my music. First, I'm building my own studio, which is called Dragon Scale Studios. At the moment it's a private studio created mostly for my personal use. I will be releasing my first CD on December 1st of 2011. I'm also a member of the band Wax Chaotic. Since I love to ride the waves of synergy, performing as part of a band has been a really special treat. It's also been very amazing and supremely humbling to see how well my music is being received.

I am primarily a vocalist (soprano) and bodhran player but dabble in other percussion and am trying to learn guitar. I have some experience in the more technical areas of audio, such as recording, but I am still very much a student when it comes to that. If I'm not able to become a full-time musician, I would at least like for my lifestyle to support rather than hinder my musicianship. But if I had the opportunity to be a full-time musician, I would love to embark on that great adventure. I'm sort of trying to find my way there now. We'll see where the journey leads me.
