Costuming
I started sewing when I was seven and kept at it as I was growing up. Once I moved out on my own, my desire to sew exploded with super nova strength. There is something about taking pins, thread, and fabric and producing a garment that didn't exist before that utterly enthralls me. I have invested a great deal of time, effort, and money into sewing over the years and fully intend on continuing to do so for as long as I'm in the mood to. Which should be a good long while.
There's a lot you can do when you're a seamstress, but I naturally gravitated toward costuming. I've dabbled in making other things, including curtains, quilts, and wedding dresses. I've even done some alterations, although those were done in special cases for special clients. They aren't things I make a habit of doing. But I really love to create costumes. So in the portfolio for this index you will see many things that might not necessarily be worn out every day—although unlike storebought costumes, the ones I make are sturdy enough that you could wear them out every day if you wanted to.
And of course part of building a costume is considering how to accessorize the main elements. I try to make my own accessories whenever I can, but some things are beyond my current skillset.
I also realized a couple of years ago that I don't like to wear pants. They're constricting, inhibiting, and just downright uncomfortable. So I decided to stop wearing them, and promptly ran into some problems. I am very particular when it comes to—well, everything really, but in this instance, I'm very particular when it comes to what I think I look good in. Not only do most stores not carry the style of skirt I like, but I have trouble finding things in my size. So I started making my own skirts. And I kept making them. I've made a lot of them. I haven't included every single one in my portfolio mostly because there are so many of them, but the ones I did include are ones that I wear all the time.
And as I have said, I do indeed take commissions. Prices vary depending on the project, but I have tried to include that information where it's available. If you need more information for something, you can always contact me about it. The costuming portfolio is meant to provide examples for projects I could work on for commission, so if you see something you like, chances are that I could make you a similar item.
I also have a small selection of items for sale right now in the Store. All of these items are one of a kind, so when they're gone, they're gone.
